What EDU means — and what SDK means
Unitree EDU versions: what they add and how they differ from base versions.
An SDK (software development kit) lets you write your own programs that control the robot and read its sensors. “Secondary development” is Unitree's term for exactly that capability.
At Unitree only some versions offer it. The others are operated with the app and remote.
| Model | Own software |
|---|---|
| G1 | G1 EDU only (SDK, ROS 2); EDU also has 23–43 DoF and an optional high-performance compute module |
| Go2 | Go2 EDU (full support); Go2 X: basic support; AIR and PRO — no |
| As2 | X and EDU versions; AIR and PRO — no |
When to choose the EDU version
- research (RL, sim-to-real, manipulation), theses, student clubs
- integration with your own sensors or systems
If the robot is mainly for presentations at events, a base version is usually enough. In a tender, write “EDU version with SDK access” explicitly, so you don't receive a non-programmable version.
